Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Devices

Where do your devices come from?

Many of our devices are education-model iPads, MacBooks, and Chromebooks sourced from school districts. These are the same durable, reliable models that schools trust for daily student use. We also source select devices from other verified channels.

Are your devices fully functional?

Yes. Every device we sell is tested and verified to be fully functional before it ships. Our condition grades (Excellent, Good, and Proven) describe cosmetic appearance only — not functionality.

Is my data safe? Will the device have someone else's data on it?

No. Every device is wiped clean and reset to factory settings before it's listed for sale. When you receive it, you'll set it up fresh — just like a new device.

What does "refurbished" mean?

A refurbished device is a previously used product that has been professionally inspected, tested, and restored to full working condition. It's not the same as "used" — every device we sell goes through our multi-point inspection before it's listed. Visit our Testing Process page to learn more.

How are devices tested before they're sold?

Every device goes through our multi-point inspection process before it's listed for sale. We test core functions, including the screen, battery, buttons, ports, cameras, speakers, and connectivity, to help ensure the device is ready for everyday use. If a device doesn't pass our testing, it's either repaired or recycled responsibly.

What do the condition grades mean?

We grade every device based on how it looks, not how it works. Excellent means near-new appearance. Good means light signs of normal use. Proven means noticeable cosmetic wear at a lower price. All grades are fully functional. You'll see the grade on each product page, and you can review the full breakdown on our Grading Process page.

What about battery health?

We test battery performance as part of our inspection process. While batteries naturally degrade with use, we aim to offer devices with batteries that support normal daily use.

How often do you replenish your stock?

We receive new inventory daily, so availability is always changing. Check back often or sign up for notifications to be alerted when items are back in stock.

Can I trade in my old iPad, iPhone, or MacBook?

Yes. Our Trade In Program makes it easy to turn in your old device and get paid quickly.

Start by answering a few questions to receive an instant estimate. Then, ship your device using our free prepaid label. Once received, our team will inspect the device to verify its condition and final value.

If approved, you'll receive payment within 3–5 business days.

Eligible devices: iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks. Visit our Trade-In Program page to learn more.

Who is Secured Tech?

We're the consumer arm of Secured Tech, a K-12 technology services company. We've been helping school districts manage their device programs for years — and now we bring that same expertise and quality to families. A portion of every purchase supports K-12 education.

How is this different from buying on Amazon or eBay?
